I am doing king lear for my half yearly HSC this is the question.
"King Lear explores timeless issues which enable differing responses."

Can anyone help me on how to break this down so it makes a little more sense.
I watched it today, do i need to watch a different one aswell?
HELP SO CONFUSED.

okay - so have you read king lear cause you said that you watched it? also what production did you watch?

so the question - basically it is the essence of critical studies - universal or timeless themes so therefore the text can be re-interpreted across contexts which creates differing responses. So step 1 for you is to work out the timeless issues within the play - find some productions which highlight different issues that then consequently create differing responses. So for example, Brian Blessed highlights the Christian elements of the play in his production, therefore most responde to his in a Christian manner - however you'd watch it and see how he explores the timeless issues compared to another production.

I think that made sense...Correct me if i'm completely off base.
