Alright so i was bored and decided to do a question out of a Trial Hsc exam

So i was doing the CSSA trial for 2001 (i got it from this website

Q21
(c)
It says Evaluate TWO of the Social , ethical OR security issues faced by the ABCshop in order to protect their customers . Suggest solutions to these issues

so anyway i did 2 issues
Access , and Data accuracy

Now this question was worth 5 marks
To get 5 marks i wouldve had to
Identify 5 issues of Data soruce , accuracy , itnegriy , privacy , access and the possiblity of data mining and suggest solutions such as data validaiton blah blah blah

5 issues?? but the question only asked me to do 2 ?
i dont understand are these Social and ethcial issues grouped or something??

help me out plz
thx

TWO means ONLY 2...

so for example u take: Privacy and Data Accuracy...

Tell what you mean by privacy...such as: protecting customer data
Means of maintaining privacy: passwords and firewall
Tell what passwords do:
- limit access to authorised personnel
- can be adjusted to the level of access such as read/write/execute permissions

Tell what a firewall does:
- application which authenticates all incoming and outgoing data (see the notes i sent u...its there in Info Sys and DB; expand a bit on what i said)

and give an evaluationt that these 2 methods do maintain privacy

then: data accuracy
-again the idea of FIREWALL, validity of data entred; double entry technique....expand on the ways u cud use....preferable do not repeat FIREWALL in both privacy and accuracy sections

Evaluate hoe effective the 2 methods are in maintaining data accuracy!

but why is the marking criteria for 5 marks you have to identify 5 issues?

Personally, I think the 2001 and 2002 CSSA papers suck.

What does it mean to "evaluate a social issue"???

Evaluate to me means to assess how effective or useful something is, what its positives and negatives are.

How effective is privacy???? it doesn't make sense.

I think they mean discuss.

For privacy(social issue) you can talk about:
- privacy policies, most if not all online stores have one.
- data mining.
- protecting personal/credit card details using security methods such as password protection, SSL/Paypal, firewalls.
- specifying what employees will have access to customer details (levels of access).

For security:
- customer details stored on a file server not a webserver. The file server needs to be secured not only from unauthorised access from the internet but also unauthorised access from abc employees. u can talk about login/logout procedures, physically locking down a server and backup procedures.

For ethical issues:
- I think this relates to specifically ot data warehousing/mining in this case. As mentioned earlier, the website owner should detail exactly how a customers personal data will be handled especially in relation to the sharing of this data. If the website owner states in their privacy policy that they will share your personal data with other entities and you still proceed to do business with them, then that is your choice and the integrity of the website owner is maintained. Problem is, how many customers would read the privacy policy? a small percentage i think.

I think at the moment it is legal for website owners to share your data so long as they spell it out in their privacy policy.

check out this link to the actual abc shop privacy policy.
