I'm thinking of going to the United States around next year, I want lots of advice!!

- How much do you need + how much would it cost flights + accommodation
- How long should I stay there, or stay less?
- I'm thinking of going to California, Chicago and New York.
- What is the best month to go there
- a friend suggested to me something called IEP if I want to go there cheaper + work myself around and holiday there cheaper, what exactly is it?
- Should I get a tour or book tours when I'm in the United States?

Thanks for everyone co-operation. :spam:

- Depends what you do, depends who you fly, depends where you stay!
- At the very least 2 weeks
- Don't go to LA. Go to San Francisco if you want to do California. Chicago and New York are great.
- June
- International Exchange Programs. Working holiday basically. They help you find a place, give you a job, help you out. Definitely worth a look if you want to stay for a few months http://www.iep.org.au/
- Only if you like tours

But isn't June a bit of a high season in the U.S = expensive.

I was thinking xmas in the U.S :D
Depending on where you go that means flying when it's snowing.

There is nothing fun about the massive cancellations/delays that happen when it's snowing/around Christmas time.

Spring/Autumn are really the "off" seasons. Plus, better weather.

Spring in the States is March-May and Autumn is September-November.

I'd say if you're going to go either early May OR late-September would be best. Good weather and just before/after the summer (which is when everything gets busy).

Keep an eye on "V Australia" (Virgin blue international)

They fly SYD/BNE to LAX and you get a 777!

But QF has the A380, which I prefer!

V Australia (subsidiary of Virgin Blue) commences service from Sydney to Los Angeles towards the end of the year. From memory, flights start from less than $1000 and include meals and IFE.

I went to the US during the Christmas holiday season last year and flew with Qantas - QF107 to New York via Los Angeles - it was fine, but I can't really see myself flying with United (UA) - based on reviews from here and there, United for a minimum of a 13 hour flight is a definite no.

As Milocole mentioned, QF is introducing the A380 to it's QF11 and QF12 flights (from Sydney to LAX) and for some other Melbourne flight. It's worth having a look at, considering that it's the same price that you'd pay for a seat in a B744.

From experience, Los Angeles is pretty bland, believe it or not. It doesn't have that wow factor that you can associate with New YorkC.

$1000? Is it 1 way flight or a return flight?

my cousins just got back from the usa. i saw them today and they couldn't stop gushing about it.

they said LA was a dump but miami, malibu, new york, vegas and atlanta were amazing.

they didn't do typical tourist things like dress like tourists and go on tours and have maps and shit - they acted like locals and befriended heaps of people who took them out to all the hotspots and shit.

the weather was amazing, they were there from early august to early sept.
not sure were they stayed, but nice places.
and everything was cheap as chips.
