Hello,

I'm not entirely sure what an (Hon) degree is? From what I've gathered I think it's an "advanced" subject/course taken on the last year of study of your course, so entering undergraduates are not able to take an (Hon) course...is that correct?

Honours are for those who wish to undertake an extra year of research specialising in a particular area of interest.

Does it have to be enrolled before/during your first year, or during your last? Or does it depend on the course?

During your last. It depends on what WAM you get to see if you qualify for Hons.

By reaching a certain WAM (commonly in first year), faculties offer students who have reached that benchmark a position in an honours course.

Usually an Honours course is defined by a set number of advanced units and a passing completion of a honours thesis.

It often depends on your university and which faculty you are enrolled in, but in most cases, all undergraduate students have the potential of undertaking honours provided that they knuckle down. It isn't something which is defined and set in stone during enrolment.
