Called up Honda's service departments and Honda Australia and no one can answer these questions. Hope someone here can help.
These questions are related to the Honda Civic 06 - Australian model.

1. Has anyone installed an amplifier into the stock head unit? No one from Honda can tell me if the stock head unit can support an external amplifier. Meaning, does it have a socket for an amp?

2. What are the speaker specs? E.g. size 6.5"?

Any help is appreciated
Cheers

Honda is useless- tried calling them and no help whatsoever.

1. Yes I have installed an amp- there is "no socket", you have to run a power cable and use lineouts (2 sets) for front & rear to hook up to an amp... if you only want to add a sub, you can just use one set of lineouts piggybacking off the rear speakers.

2. The speakers are 6" from memory; but a 6.5" fits.

wtf lineouts?

To add an amp you need a set of RCA cable outlets on the back of the head unit. They are 2 plugs on the back of the head unit that are red and white on the inside.....And you also need a remote access wire or another random wire, like the antenna wire for example, to attatch from the amp to the head unit. It should have both but i've never seen the back of a head unit out of a civic, let alone an 06 model.

What you're talking about are aftermarket or premium headunits. The integrated headunit in the Civic06 only has speaker-level outputs with no remote access/remote-on wire. In other words (Shimian), unless you have a remote power switch installed for your amp (which might come off looking ugly), you'll be running your amp the same way I run mine- always on and connected to my HU via a pair of Alpine lineouts. I'm never worried because my music is always on so it doesn't really affect me. However it does pose problems in Summer if your amp overheats because you can't turn it off manually (but the heat protection should turn off the amp automatically) meaning that you better have your amp in a good location. On my Civic VTi-L, and similar to your Sport, you can install the amp on the back of the rear seat on the left side of the split. This way you can fold it down when it's hot and let the air cond help cool it down a bit...

However... it should be noted my amp only ever overheated and shut off TWICE in the life of my car. The first time I kept the backseat up (and that's when I came up with the idea of pushing down the seats)... the second time, my car had been parked in the sun for a while, and even with the seat down... the car was still way too hot for the amp.
