Hey guys, this sounds a bit overambitious but...when i grow up, i wanna be a businessman  . the type like a manager or something really important in the city and possibly overseas in the future.

I have the ambition and determination to go for it but im not sure on how i can get there. What course should i study in Uni? What part time jobs can i take? Should i try out the "Job Experience" program at my school (go work at a real job for a week). Anyone who knows, please help? appreciated :)

if you do business studies in your HSC you are guaranteed a management position with any massive company, you won't even need to go to uni, they will be falling over themselves to employ you

but seriously idk just do economics-related-ish subjects and do work experience in offices and shit, you'll have to work your way up from the bottom anyway. isn't there also a business services TAFE/VET course or something that might be useful?

Do a double degree in law & business or something like account, economics or management. Be aware it is pretty competitive. Anh Do took this path and turn out to be a comedian because it is long hours and hard work. These days, its a tough world out there. Anything worth having ain't easy. Its not just a straight path to where you want to go. Most people who complete a degree well end up in a grinding job. Basically you are working for the man doing mindless things. Its not the way to be an CEO, venture capitalist or entrepreneur.

The pathways for this is...I dunno...do internships, start a business, form a group, get into grad programs, grind your way to the top, sleep your way to the top, join society and groups, meet the right people, get two jobs...

If you want to be really successful, you need to have vision. Without it, ambition can only get you so far.

Double degree is very important - Science, Law or Engineering as well as commerce come to mind. Then maybe look at postgrad work in a suitable field. At least that way you will have a competitive edge over most of the competition. Put your head down at school and work hard. Maybe talk to some people in the industry as well. Call it a school assignment or what not.

LOL! OMG!

Firstly, are you proud that you have a full time job? Wow. You are my hero. I'm pretty surprised that you have a full time job, no other person who did their HSC last year has a full time job. Your skills must be a sight to behold. Can I have an autograph?

Secondly, if you want to be earning good money i.e more than 100k a year, you need a degree. You aren't a business person doing admin. You are administration. You don't make decisions on the companies direction, broker deals with clients or have a say on anything important. About the closest you will get is buying pens and new chairs for the company. Just because you wear a suit doesn't make you a businessman. Although, by your logic, you are.

Thirdly, experience counts, but you also need qualifications. You might make good money, but in 10 years time and once graduates have experience, you are going to be left behind.

Next, I'm sure you know what you are doing when it comes to resumes. Obviously with your "experience", you are an expert. How long since school has finished? Four months? How can your resume be awesome? Lie a little?

Finally, how about listening to people with half a brain and a lot more life experience than you. What about listening to people who have been working full time for years or have the relevant experience to give an accurate answer.

But remember, becoming a businessman and starting your own business can be completely different concepts. Entrepreneurs in many cases haven't had degrees, they've had good ideas, self-motivation, perseverance, and vision.

But yeah, if general middle management is what your aiming for, either work your way up the corporate ladder from the ground, or get yourself a good degree, and dive right in.
