i find this module the most broadest and certainly vague

past trial questions range from

a specific question like deception or loyalty or role of women
how have critical receptions changed over time
how important is context to Hamlet
choose a specific scene and write about how your views have changed during your study of this unit
how significant is the ending to the rest of the play
what is your personal view on hamlet/how would you play hamlet
human relationships

what do u reckon is a generic essay question? do u have to literally memorise the entire play!?

Well it is called a "Critical Study of text" so they do expect a thorough understanding of the text.

I know what you mean, but I guess that's what they want, they're trying to sort us out in terms of who can think on their feet.

IMO, you should have:
- A firm understanding of the overall plot, and sequence of events
- An extensive knowledge of at least two different main characters
- A decent understanding of a few lesser characters
- An extensive understanding of the thematic concepts
- An understanding of the values that are portrayed in the texts
- A basic reasoning for Hamlet's 'madness'
- An understanding of the context of the play, theatrically, socially and politically
- Quotes and proof to back up all the above
