You take a photo of your stuff, make a listing (auction, buy it now, or both), people bid/buy it, tada. Merchant accounts are free - eBay takes a listing fee (which depends a lot on how much you list the item for sale, how many photos and categories, rah rah) which is deducted from your paypal account if you have one, or credit card.
