In Modern, Ancient and English i have repeatedly fallen into the trap of retelling with a strong Historical knowledge and understanding but have been unable to develop a strong thesis as i often retel rather than answering the Question or making a judgement.
Should i just practice essay questions or responses, is there any other ways to improve.
Thanks

hi, for english i find that having a skeleton essay for each module (discursive / imaginative for mod c) is good. have a broad thesis that is adaptable to any q on the day

i only do modern (not ancient) and for that just analysing questions and deconstructing them can help you make a judegment. also helps if you have an opinion on the content that you can articulate as well as structuring paragraphs not as topics but as actual arguments. "although x had a significant impact, it was y that changed the course of the war" and then you would unpack
