How are our responses for Advanced English marked? Is it only marked by one person? because if we get a grumpy marker, as opposed to a really soft marker, will our marks become lower?

English responses are double marked and average taken (assuming both marks are pretty similar). This explains the whole marking process: http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/hsc_exams/marking.html

All written responses of 10 marks or more in all subjects are double marked and if the difference is too great they are marked a third time by the Senior Marker who will adjudicate between the two responses.
