Alright, so alot of my friends have been wondering about the HSC, since we are starting in about 6 weeks.

Everyone is wondering what rankings are, internal marks, external marks, and what other factors play in your ATAR.

1. What are internal marks?
2. What are external marks?
3. What is rankings, and are they important?
4. How to get ranked number first?

Any other information would be extermely beneficial towards any other BOScers, who are having trouble with this :)

Thankyou!

a quick overview

1. Marks that you receive regarding you school assessments/assignments.
2. Marks you get in the final examination. The actual HSC exam
3. Ranking is self explanotary. It's your ranking academically in relation to other students. A higher ranking = a higher Atar. so yes it is very important
4. Achieving the first rank means you need to beat your fellow classmates in a subject. This rank is based on your internal marks. Then these get moderated after you external exams to compare yourself with students in NSW (clarify this with someone else, not really sure how moderation and all works)
But all I know is that work your ass off because your rankings, exam marks and ATAR will be based on your efforts. Don't expect it to be a walk in the park. Start from the get go and maintain that effort if you wanna maintain a high rank.

3. No, a higher ranking means a higher moderated school assessment mark.

4. These marks are moderated so that the achievement of the school's cohort can be mapped to the BOS standards which gives you that final HSC mark to see if you're a Band 3, 4, 5, 6 or whatever student.
