Here are some brief info i got from dis book called Speeches.

Socrates speech is aimed at:
-developing an understanding of his philosophies and intentions
-justifying and defending his actions as fundamental rights of the individual
-presenting himself on a virtuous and heroic fight.
THEMES:
*Rights Of The Individual- The speech champions his rights as an individual over the laws of the Athenian State. He believes that his freedom to speak, dissent and be heard in a public form should not be restricted by state laws simply bcoz dey are progressive or defiant.
*Divine Justice-By proposing that 'no evil can happen to a good man, either in life or after death', Socrates suggests that justice doesn't lie in the hands of the law but in the hands of God.

Modern Reception: In a modern reception we can appreciate Socrates as the first true orator and value his significant contribution to the art of rhetoric. As a scholar and a philosopher, who has influenced many historical greats, his work retains an inherent cultural value that ensures its continued appreciation.
The cultural and contextual fear of new ideas and free speech, characteristic of Socrate's time, has largely dissipated.
