Just out of curiosity.
The mark you get in the HSC exam is yours. That will be your external mark, there's no link to ranks with this. You can be ranked 20 and get the top mark if you get it in the actual exam. However, this won't be the same as your internal mark, which is where the ranks will be factored into it. This is fair because then whoever came first in the assessments at school gets a mark linked to this performance.Just out of curiosity.
but then will the internal assessment (raw) mark of the person (who topped the hsc exam but wasnt top internally) change? or will it remain the same? The mark you get in the HSC exam is yours. raw doesnt matter its just purely ranks, so you can be first internally with 20% but get 95 externally and get an overall 95 hsc mark.but then will the internal assessment (raw) mark of the person (who topped the hsc exam but wasnt top internally) change? or will it remain the same?
say the internal mark is like 85 (not top rank) but externally they get 95 (top mark). Will the internal mark change to be aligned?
fr?? so internal marks don't matter at all then?raw doesnt matter its just purely ranks, so you can be first internally with 20% but get 95 externally and get an overall 95 hsc mark.
internal ranks matter. say for the example above you're not first with 20% but last and in the HSC you get 95%. Your external mark would be 95% but your internal since your last will reflect the lowest score in the HSCfr?? so internal marks don't matter at all then?
Doesn’t the internal and external get added together and divided by two to get your final HSC mark for each respective subject? So getting 20 internally and 95 externally in this example would ultimately screw you over in comparison to valuing internal equally to hsc exams? That’s what a teacher told us, but could be wrong?raw doesnt matter its just purely ranks, so you can be first internally with 20% but get 95 externally and get an overall 95 hsc mark.
no because in that example you were first internally so your internal mark was moderated to the first external markDoesn’t the internal and external get added together and divided by two to get your final HSC mark for each respective subject? So getting 20 internally and 95 externally in this example would ultimately screw you over in comparison to valuing internal equally to hsc exams? That’s what a teacher told us, but could be wrong?
yeah i get the top and bottom rank thing.internal ranks matter. say for the example above you're not first with 20% but last and in the HSC you get 95%. Your external mark would be 95% but your internal since your last will reflect the lowest score in the HSC
ye so basically Raw external marks, Aligned, Internal marks moderated against aligned external marks, HSC mark. Scaling is done only in the calculation of your ATARScaling is applied AFTER all the moderation processes have occurred.
They can’t “dial down” the scaling for some and not others.
then if you're third internally, your internal marks will be in respect to that of the 3rd ranked mark in the hsc for your schoolyeah i get the top and bottom rank thing.
but say you're maybe second or third/in the middle. How are your internal marks aligned/determined then?
so in this scenario you're third rank with 20% and get 95% in the hsc
ahhhhhh okay okay so this applies to all ranksthen if you're third internally, your internal marks will reflect that of the 3rd ranked mark in the hsc for your school
yes they will receive the lower mark but only for INTERNALSSo if you get a higher mark than the first internally ranked person in the external, you will receive an overall lesser mark than the internal first rank to reflect your rank? I'm getting a bit confused.
Only your internal marks are subject to moderation. Your external marks are what you get on the daySo if you get a higher mark than the first internally ranked person in the external, you will receive an overall lesser mark than the internal first rank to reflect your rank? I'm getting a bit confused.
your internal would be lower, overall that depends on how you both do externallySo if you get a higher mark than the first internally ranked person in the external, you will receive an overall lesser mark than the internal first rank to reflect your rank? I'm getting a bit confused.
nup, it's aligned with respect to ranks only. the fairness is questionable certainlybut then isn't that unfair?
because say a person gets like an 80 in their internal mark (averaged) and is rank 20 --> and this lower mark is because they were marked harsher internally. But then the same person gets the top mark of 95 in the hsc.
so wouldn't the internal mark be increased to align with the hsc mark in order to account for the internal marking bias?
