To cut a long story short, you can't integrate it without having done the exponentials and logarithms chapter. You cannot integrate anything to the power of -1 (as this function is) through the normal way. The result is:

[loge (x - 7)]139 (since the derivative of the loge f(x) is f'(x)/f(x))

= ln 6 - ln 2

= ln (6/2)

= ln 3

in general, when doing calculus for logs:

d (ln[f(x)]) / dx = f'(x) / f(x)

therefore, in reverse:

∫ f'(x) / f(x) dx = ln[f(x)]

mind you, this only applies to log of base e, no other bases. lnx= logex
