If I rank 10th internally in school assessments and get a HSC mark of 90, does that go to the person ranked 1st and I get the 10th mark?

How The HSC Works:

- if you get a mark of 90, that will be combined with your trial mark and divided by two. the trial mark does not scale. so if you get like 30 for trials and 90 for HSC in English for example, it will round out to 120/2 = mark of 60/100.

so make sure you do well in trials otherwise ur quite fucked

you always keep your own exam mark- if you get a 90 in the exam mark, your exam mark will always be 90.
Your school based marks are moderated. Your cohort's marks are adjusted so they match the range of the exam marks- e.g the aggregate and mean match. The distribution matches the marks submitted by your school. If you ranked 10th in school assessment, you will get the 10th moderated assessment mark- note this could be higher or lower than the 10th exam mark.

Your total hsc mark is the average of your hsc exam mark and moderated assessment mark.
You can read about it more on the NESA website: https://educationstandards.nsw.edu.au/wps/portal/nesa/11-12/hsc/about-HSC/moderation
