Hi,

I'm in Year 11 at the moment and will start Year 12 work next month. I was wondering if anyone could give me some assistance in sourcing a monologue that is right for me? I would prefer something that is not too stereotypically girly - either a female monologue that doesn't feel the need to reinforce the fact that the character is female every ten seconds (which a lot of them seem to do), a gender-neutral monologue or a male monologue that could be altered so that a female could perform it. I'd also prefer something that hasn't been done to death... I'm partial to satirical monologues, especially if they are satirical of society or some aspects of it, but otherwise I am fairly open-minded and will give anything a try to see if it fits me.

Try getting a hold of some of Caryl Churchill's work. She writes a lot of strong female parts, and is one of the bigger names in modern theatre. Top Girls is a good starting place, but ask your teacher as well.
