I'm doing a double degree in petroleum eng and com, atm my electives are phys1131, math1141, acct1501 and ptrl1010. I decided to take acct1501 over engg1000 but was just asking if engg1000 is compulsory, i see alot of engineering students take it.

Compulsory but you can do it anytime. I had a group member who was in 4th year in 2nd semester take ENGG1000 so it's up to you. But highly recommend you do it first year, first semester. If not, just avoid it in 2nd semester of any year.
