Hiiii all. General maths is my weakest subject by about 20 marks and probably about 20 ranks as well. Since I’m doing 12 units, I know It won’t count in my ATAR, therefore I feel like I don’t have much motivation to study for it. I mean, I’d rather study for a subject that I know I can do well in rather than study for something I won’t do as well in / won’t count in ATAR. I want to drop it eventually because I’m struggling with the 12 unit workload atm and would really appreciate some study periods in school. However my parents say you shouldn’t drop maths, they’d rather it was on my HSC that I did maths in case I “need” it later. Is this even a valid point?

Not really. The unis are all looking for 2U and 3U (and 4U) Maths. If you're not doing at least 2U then you don't need to worry about needing it on your HSC.
