Hi all, just did my first MathExt2 exam and I am utterly defeated. I think the max I'm going to get is ~80%, but I think I'm going to be getting around 60-70% if I count my silly mistakes. I just can't believe I did so badly, I revised a lot for complex numbers but over half of the exams were locus! I'm scared that this won't get me a 99+ atar anymore. This is already 20% of the weighting in ME2 so anyone who knows well about ATAR and scaling please help me out here. I'm feeling so not confindent for Ext1 and Chemistry as well which I'll be taking the exam tomorrow 😭😭

Study method is wrong. Your are likely not doing enough practice exams (not just a whole set of questions) or are not doing questions in an effective way. Do exam conditions (not just exercises) practice and note down any mistakes after each session. Use these mistakes noted to do specific revsion

I did this and turned a 70% (when practising) in maths to a 85% in the trials exam. I am now expecting a 95% raw in the HSC exam (not to show off, but just showing how effective it is).

Thanks for the advice. The super sad thing about it is I did practise all of the past papers, but it was only our year that had locus and vectors in this exam so I was not prepped for locuses, only homework ☹. There were such little complex number questions and the questions I had corrected were unfortunately not in the exam at all.

Sorry to read. Have you tried Excel Study Guides (no ext 2 maths unforntuately)? I can post some resources specific to your needs if you need any (such as practice tests).

I've mostly been working on Fitzpatrick and Cambridge textbooks. Any trial papers from EX2 will be great πŸ’”

in that case, then it's unfortunate HOWEVER all that's left to do is revise all the content you feel less confident in. don't be discouraged!! there's always the possibility for a comeback, especially considering the holidays ahead. just keep on trying and trust me, you will reap the rewards :)

Thank you all for the encouragements. However I really wanted to know if around a 60-70% raw mark lead to what kind of HSC mark for ext2 since I'm very worried for my atar 🫠

it's really only the rank you need to account for, the mark seldom matters if everybody else did worse. if other people were unprepared for the locus then you're not cooked. do you have a general idea of how other people went?
also keep in mind this is EXTENSION 2 maths!! doing this subject already contributes greatly to your atar!! dont worry!!

I'm not sure about how other people went, but I know that my cohort is quite competitive (For reference, my rank was 20th/100 in my report when I received a 97/100 mark for Math Advanced). But I am definitely around bottom 50% (48 people are doing MathExt2 right now), maybe 30-40th....

if you have a strong cohort then you should definitely still be okay

dw ask away!!
hopefully your school will be lenient about that and not deduct any marks for doing that... maybe they'll be able to figure out that the question booklet with no name is yours?

Hmm, not sure how lenient my school is but I hope a 0 is out of the question; I'll contact the deputy principal tomorrow morning since I'm super worried. Is there a rule in NESA that they'll deduct marks for not labelling the question booklets though? I thought it was only the answer booklets getting marked, not sure why they make you put a number in the question booklet.

aa well for my school they indicate the total mark you received on the question booklet so thats why i think it might be important to put your name down

Oh, I suppose that's right.... but I think it'd be quite unreasonable for a penalised mark since there may be people accidentally not writing their student numbers properly. I can only hope for the best β€Ό

Nah, you're fine. This subject scales like a joke anyways. Also, it's probably the easiest to jump ranks in because of its difficulty. I'm certain that if you were aiming for a 99+ in the first place, you have enough of a mindset to do well in x2. Considering you probably have proofs next, just build your confidence by grinding out questions.
