Im currently in year 11 and am really struggling with the topic im just worried if itll be a substantial part of the year 12 courses or if it only really carries over to extension 2

No not really. However the year 11 content is examinable in the HSC unlike other subjects so you still need to be across it.

You will need to know the basic concept of combinations for a year 12 topic - 'binomial probability'. And as mentioned, it is likely to be in your trials and hsc.
