"scaling" is irrelevant as a concept as it doesnt exist in the new HSC (its called adjusting!)
It depends on the cohort. SOR has the numbers and it does tend to go up slightly but you cant give an exact number as it varies.

Most subjects bar a handful "scale" (or adjust) badly ie its a negative figure...there is a chart somewhere on teh forum that shows these figures. Will try and find it for you....

Hey Tudor182, I'm not too sure about 2004, but in '01, '02 and '03 SORI did 'scale' up.

2001- +1.6
2002- +1.4
2003- +1.6

And SORII was slightly higher at....
2001- +2.9
2002- +2.8
2003- +2.6

You can see the 01-03 scaling of courses here

Hope that helps. Don't worry yourself too much about scaling though - it's possible to get good marks and a good UAI with any combination of courses - just as long as you are motivated, you work hard, and you enjoy the subject.

yeh but the maximum UAI contribution is something like 42 points out of 50.....

Not every subject weighs the same in the eyes of the board (obviously) and so the maximum UAI contribution for SoR 1 unit (which is a mark out of 50), is roughly 42 marks. Therefore, don't rely on it too heavily.

On the other hand, something like English Advanced has 100/100 max.

--> Its basically a mistake for anyone to try to find any value in this subject marks/uai wise. It's just an interesting course to take.

This page/pdf from UAC would *somewhat* disagree with your statement
http://www.uac.edu.au/pubs/pdf/2004-Table-A6.pdf

It counted for 79%/ 80% of all candidates in 2004 who studied SOR.....

Actually you'd find 42 is not a cap for sor. UAC statistics report people in both 2003 and 2004 received a scaled mark of above 45/50.
