ok well i've brainstormed all of my ideas thus far and have organised them into chapters my pip topic is on the socialisation of teenagers today on the internet with my cross cultural component being time .

my chapter titles are as follows:

identity

communication

belonging/relationships

fantasy/revenge

privacy

so is this too broad? and if so what should i focus on?

I think it's definitely too broad, and 'time' isn't a cross cultural component as such. I think what you're maybe getting at is how the internet affects socialisation compared to what generations without the internet are like in terms of socialisation...but yeah. Veeery broad :p
I would select one of your chapter headings and make it your topic. Possibly pick fantasy? You could look at how teenagers have an "internet self" and a "real self"...perhaps how their internet self reflects what they'd like their real self to be lie, and reflects a kind of disenchantment with the real world...
For a cross cultural component, you could look at an older generation with less internet usage and look at whether that's made them more focused on engaging with the real world, perhaps more satisfied with real life?
Anyway.
Hope that helped.

wtf? of course it is... plenty of people do this. But in regards to this particular PIP i don't think it would work to well... the internet hasn't been around long enough to get really solid generational comparisons, but thats my opinion, talk to your teacher.

thanks you all for you're responses, too bad I've seen this too late (due to internet problems)...it would have really helped me...ah i guess my holidays will be dead fixing it up

i don't want to have to completely dismantle my PIP after all these endless hours so i present you with what my PIP's chapters look like thus far and hopefully you guys can help me refine the hypothesis or suggest any other form of help for my draft due on Thursday

i now have 3 chapters

identity, communication, relationships

basically I'm trying to relate all these and determine how through the use of interchangeable identities and personas do adolescents benefit from online socialization in their micro world?

and yes i really think i do need to revise my cross cultural component...any suggestions?

i was thinking something around the relationships between reality and real life and how identities and communication are changed online to reflect who you want to be in real life or as an escape for reality.
