Hi,
I recently got an interview for Year 9 entry into James Ruse after completing the Edutest and application process.
I would really appreciate if anyone who completed the Year 9 interviews (or any interviews for James Ruse in general) could share the interview questions that were asked so that I can have a bit of preparation.
Thanks in advance
: )))))))
not me, but a friend of mine got an interview. i got one for another high ranking selective school, they are very similar ngl so i feel semi confident giving advice.
main q's are like why did you choose ruse, what will you contribute to the school, what are your interests outside of school, extracurricular interests etc. also back when i was in y9 you had to fill out a seperate application form for schools like ruse or baulko that is seperate to the nsw government one, the one with q's like how far away from ruse do you live, how do you plan to get to school daily and smth about a challenge you overcame or whatever. all of those types of things are stock-standard interview q's you get in high ranking selective schools in general.
something else that might sell you as an interview candidate is doing some extra research into the initiatives, extracurricular opportunities et. that ruse offers and expressing interest in that. for example say you're an active member of the debating team at your current school, you might ask a question or subtly express interest in trying out for their debate team. or if you are interested in the army cadet unit you might ask about that or smth. it might serve as a slick brag in terms of your extracurricular commitments so far and also show that you're interested in contributing to their school as well if that makes sense.
at the end of the day the interview itself often isn't used to narrow down candidates to the extent that most people think it does (in my opinion). they usually depend mostly on your marks and extracurriculars and rank kids on a list before they even select ppl and they go down that list in terms of interviews. ppl only get rejected after the interview stage when everyone on that list are really really close in terms of marks and academics and they just so happened to run out of spots before they got to you, or smth like that.
so as long as you dont screw up majorly (stuttering, being nervous is okay, they know you are under stress just make sure to not swear or smth) and are somewhat likeable you will be alright in terms of clearing the interview. anything apart from that is really out of your control, just do your best
good luck!! stay confident
also i will be unwatching this thread so don't spam me on this unless you need me for smth
