I have a question

just basing this as an example

if some one were to get
say:

For internal assesments

say:

Eco-77%
General Maths-69%
English Advanced-73%
Business Studies-72%
IPT-93%

and for there HSC exams

got

Eco-87%
Maths-89%
English-83%
Business-93%
IPT-91%

say this person was ranked in the top 3 of his class in each subject

what would happen to his internal mark would it increase drastically.......... decrease....... or stay relitivley the same????

Depends entirely upon the average exam mark and top exam mark for each of their classes.

OK... to begin with, most of those averages are very unlikely... three of them fall in the band 1 range, which usually only constitutes around 5% of the state. Unless you were referring to raw marks? Anyway.

If the top exam mark is within 2 or 3 marks of his exam mark, and he's ranked in the top 3 for all his courses, chances are his moderated assessment marks will turn out to be within a few marks of his aligned exam marks for each course.

School exam averages are often much lower than final HSC exam averages.

is that due to scaling and everything else?

Due to alignment, yes. Schools are still using the full 0 - 100 range for assessment marks, yet the alignment process squishes ~95% of those marks into the 50 - 100 range, which obviously results in a higher average for aligned exam marks.
