He had a snack at work. It was just a bread role. It's not really stealing.

reading between the lines, it's implying he killed himself, because he lost his job. i suspect his family was very harsh on him and he couldnt face them, thats how i read it anyway

You'd also have to question the general mental stability of the man. They say he lived with his Aunt? Where is his family? I gather that he probably isn't well educated and may struggle out here if he was working at that sort of place, they offer pretty stingy wages. Because i know personally if i was reprimanded for eating a bread roll and a big deal was made out of it i would think the company was completly loony.

'Informed' and 'telegraph'... two words I thought I'd never see in the same sentence

My bad... just an attempt to be both cynical and pretentious. :( :)

plah... i heard that he stole it towards the end of his shift, when they would have closed pretty soon. and that it was a slice of garlic bread, which they would have chucked anyway because they would be closing soon. and that he was publically humiliated in front of his co-workers and whoever else, and fired on the spot.
dunno if that source is reliable. probably been a bit exaggerated

i can't believe he would suicide over this. that is so stupid
and i can't believe the dude would make such a big deal out of a bread roll. he was probably tired and hungry from serving stupid customers. and they would have totally made up for it in the tips they receieved.
argh... what a wasted life
