I want to study the translation and interpreting at UNSW.

Is interpreter and translator a good choice to start with for a career in the legal field? What should I look for in the course of my studies and what are the market demands? Should I spend 1.5 years to become accredited in both translation and interpreting or should I complete the 1 year program for translator and get the interpreter outside the school?

I would say interpreting get you much farther than translation in terms of $$$. Court interpreting can be quite expensive, I think it's like $100-$200 per hour. If you ask me, acquiring interpreting skills is more useful than being a translator. Do you mind if I ask what language you're studying? I think translators are a lot more common (since it's a easier job) so going for the one which requires more skill would increase your chances of employment.
