Hey fellow chemistry sufferers,

I dont know if any of you are now suffering this assignment or have in the past, but there is a 6 mark (out of 35) question asking you to:

"Describe in detail the various methods for measuring atmospheric levels of pollutants in the atmosphere around the world."

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

This should help

This webapge is excellent, and i'm sure will answer your question.
It discusses the traditional appraoch taken by the EPA (environmental protection agency) and also outlines a great new invention being tried and tested.

You will really only need to understand the old approach for now, but i would really recommend you read up on the new technology is this is for a research task.

ALSO, this is the sort of question that most students look at and scream..."but its not in the syllubus!!!!"
Although it is NOT a syllubus dot point, it is related to point

"assess the evidence which indicates increases in atmospheric concentration of oxides of sulfur and nitrogen"...

as you can see, you teacher is trying to get you to find out where this "evidence" comes from and how we collect it... and in doing so will help you better understand that syllabus point.

Hope that all helps
