Hey,
I'm in exams at the moment and have an essay on russia and the romanovs they want us to research ourselves and write about in the exam. Its weird cos we haven't really covered what they want us to write about. hmmm. Have any ideas about where I should start or any notes or info that would help me for this one?:
"How did the 1905 Revolution and WWI lead to the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917" --- your help would be greatly appreciated.

Start off with what the Tsar Nicholas did e.g. why he was so inexperienced and that he was an autocrat trying to bring Russia back to the 17th century instead of the other world powers who were developing industrially, socially...
then include stuff on the oct manifesto and duma...rasputin and Nicholas' wife etc
Treatment of the peasants...rebellions leading up to bloody sunday
Dont worry...its a really easy topic once u've got the jist of it

well the 1917 revolution was an accumulation of the the 1905 revolution and even though the war had not ended yet, the outcome looked pretty bleak for the Russians. Don't forget to mention the Russo-Japanese War. Nicholas II, like his father, was a despotic/autocratic/rigid ruler during a time of great social change in Russia - he could not connect with his people. The ex serfs (peasants) were paying taxes on top of making redemption payments for their land. Famines during the turn of century heighted rural discontent and uprising (even though they were on the brink of starvation). Moreover, Marxism, socialism, communism all these new ideas began to sprout in Russian cities and towns - the organisers tried to recuit the ever growing proleteriats to stage riots etc. These ideas were attractive to many poor Russians and they advocated change - something the poor wanted.
