For me, there isn't a one song or artist.

When I'm feeling melancholy (as in right now) I listen to songs that I know none of my friends listen to. Songs that are a little obscure or something that i can listen to and feel part of a minority.

listening to: animal collective - my girls.

one of my friends think animal collective is an organisation that collects animal.

not exactly what i mean.

i'm talking more about how the artist mentions in their lyrics what music means to them...

for example

that when we play the beat, it's what i live for
it takes everything away from me
so let it be, this is who i am
and it takes everything away from me

Kisschasy - Anger is the brand new thing

i hope this makes a bit more sense

i dont know if this is applicable but conor oberst (bright eyes) adds musical stuff to his lyrics:

"And I sing and sing of awful things
The pleasure that my sadness brings
As my fingers press onto the strings
In yet another clumsy chord
Haligh, haligh, an awful lie
This weight will now be satisfied
I'm gonna give you only one reply
I know not who I am"
Bright Eyes - Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh

"But all I have for the moment is a song to pass the time
A melody to keep me from worrying
Oh, some simple progression to keep my fingers busy
And some words that are sure to come back to me "
Bright Eyes - A Song to Pass the Time

is that in any way relevant?
