How would the narrative 'my last duchess' relate to our modern day society?

The story depicts a duke that talks about his former "Duchess" and implies he had her killed because she was too appreciative of other men.

I mean it can relate to murders that happen over jealousy in today's society but, it can also relate to someone always needing power. Take the government, for instance, they are pretty much a patriarchal group that feeds off of the power the nation gives to them. If someone steps outta line then the government can see a fitting punishment for their crime, just as the Duke did with his Duchess. He saw that she was flirtatious with other men or so it seemed so what better punishment then to kill her.
