Ok my UAi isnt high enough to get into UNSW/USYD/Macquarie business/commerce course but i am interested in pursuing a course at one of these uni's ... (my uai is 81) What are my options?

Can anyone please tell me der experiences with SIBT?
Do any other unis offer a SIBT type option?
Is TAFE better?
Can i get a transfer from TAFE to one of the "good" unis?

you could do arts and then transfer? yes you can transfer from tafe i think. don't know much about SIBT.
but as with all transfers you need to meet the criterias

well arts is pretty hard to get into as well... the cut off these days are 86 at macq, syd and unsw

there are always new computing, ebiz courses which are around 80. there are a few who are doing this, and planning to transfer (internally) at macq on bos.

i know some ppl who did sibt this yr..they said it was ok. mostly it is designed for international students, but basically you learn the same subjects/material as the rest of the uni. classes r small; around same as in high school. class times r diff. to rest of uni; heard some start at 8am!

i'd say you should try and get into a degree with a lower cut off and just internally trasnfer to your desired course!!

if you have your heart set on a business/commerce course at mq, then my suggestion is that you get into *anything* at mq and then internally transfer.

you have a fair amount of freedom in chosing your subjects, so you should be able to chose subjects that would count towards your comm/bus degree and the ones that dont count as core will count as electives [most comm/bus deg have elevctives]. so you could perhaps finish your comm/bus deg in the same time as it would have taken without transfer. there are a lot of options at mq, summer school being another one where you can catch up on units.

i sy you go with what everyone else is saying.
do a lower course. i think the comp courses are pretty low. IT, ebus. then transfer half year into what you want.

I disagree with transferring internally. First you study something that you dont like, secondly you waste a semester of your life, and thirdly you have to get high marks to be accepted for transfer.

Insearch and SIBT are much better, if you can afford it that is. You dont waste any time, as after a year you go into the second year at university, you study what you want, and basically all you need to do is pass!

Worst thing is being stuck in a course you dont like!

actually you wouldn't waste a semester of your life.... because you get credit for those units...
and you'd obviously pick units that would be core under the desired degree.

and as for trasnferring into commerce at mq, all you need is a gpa of 2.0, which is all passes in 4 subjects.

People are suggesting I.T. courses, which means the core subjects would be different to commerce. I dont know what e-business studies, but im sure that would be different too, so unless the degree is very similar it is a waste! Looking at Mq, 90 is the going mark for commerce degrees, meaning that he would have to look into a different field, waste of time.

Once enrolled in BeBus, you can do the ECON 110, STAT 170 and two other units and with that a pass should get you into the B Com.

That way you have two units already done, meaning you didnt miss out on anything and two electives which will count later on.

Probably your best bet if you really want to get in.

B Com – Accounting
• at least 12 credit points with an
overall gpa of 2.0
BCom – Actuarial Studies
• at least 18 credit points with an
overall gpa of 3.0 and completion
of MATH132 (Cr) or MATH133
(Cr) or MATH134 (Cr) or
MATH136 (Cr)
B Com – Marketing
• at least 12 credit points

But you don't have to do the cores for your degree. You can pick the cores of the degree you want to be transferred into, and the uni would look on it as electives for the IT course, but when your transfer it'd count as cores for the commerce degree. That's what everyone is saying, no? Since you can pick the cores of the commerce degree to do in your first semester, you'd be doing the same subjects as every other commerce kid, then when you transfer you'd have kept up with everyone else, hence not a waste of time.

Edit: About SIBT, I got a couple of friends doing it and the subjects are pretty much the same...timing is a little difference in terms of semesters dates, and courses slighty different, and I think I don't know if its for all SIBT students but my friends seem to have full 9-6 days...

Oh, and SIBT is Chinatown

as above, yes, you won't waste time because as long as you have a electives you can choose the core subjects for the course you are transferring into
