There is a great essay called "The Simple Art of Murder" by Raymond Chandler.
He pretty much just sticks up for the sub-genre he writes (hard-boiled/realist) and completely destroys Intuitionist (in particular "The Red House Mystery" by A.A Milne).
I used it for an essay and got 18 out of 20 (Y).
