So I went to the doctors to help overcome my intense anxiety issues (I know it's a bit late, but better now then never right?). The doctor issued me with a sample of quite a strong medication and i'm now starting to feel very disoriented, tired and weak.

My only real exam is on Thursday and i'm quite concerned about my performance in it.

I guess I could stop taking it, but that might end up for the worse?

Anyone with past-experience in this area?

Name of medication, dosage...yadda yadda.

It sounds like a depressant and you should tell your doctor that its affecting negatively. All you need is for you to fall asleep during an exam due to no fault of your own and failing it. Its not a good feeling.

Sounds like Benzos, I was always warned strongly by my psychologist that going on to anti-anxiety medication would probably frustrate me more as I'd be drowsy and not quite 'switched on'. I'm far from a doctor, but maybe see if you can switch to an SSRI like fluvoxamine or something.

Hell, even halving the dosage might help.

if its too strong, you should tell him/her about it, and ask to take a smaller dose e.g. if you take 1 pill, ask if you can take half a pill. also, i didn't know that doctors were allowed to give you that medication? i thought you had to go to a specialist e.g. psychiatrist/psychologist (whatever it is) when i first started on ritalin, it was way too strong for me.. so my paediatrician changed my dose.. ritalin at first sped up my heart (so fast i couldnt cope properly), and it made me feel very gloomy, but at the same time i could concentrate more. anyways, my dose has been altered a few times etc.. also, if the medication is too strong maybe you should try eating a bigger breakfast when you take it in the morning.

im no doctor but i like to say i am um you should never take yourself off a medication, medications taken in large doses need to be weined off slowly... if its a smaller dose i suppose you could get away with stopping it yourself but for every good side effect there are bad ones and you might have even worse side effects if you stop the medication depending on what it is. if its an anti-depressant or an anti- psychotic it might make you a little drowsy but those medications are designed to balance out the seretonin chemicals in the brain which can actually help with your exam performance
