Morality, class and gender (role of women) are some of the paradigms I have.
Morality- Nora's lies and deceit as well as Krogstad and his past
Class- the way the Helmer's live, Torvald and his views on Krogstad: “a stench of lies and deceit poisons the whole household” (Act 1, Lines 916-17).
Gender- The way Torvald speaks to Nora, role of the housewife in the 19th century. Nora says, by doing copying work, “sitting there working, earning money. Almost like a man!”(Act 1, lines 435-36)
Ways of thinking- utilitarianism, free will
Utilitarianism- Nora goes against it, leaving her family. Should she have stayed, it probably would have been the greatest happiness for the greatest number.
Free will- Nora leaves of her own free will- noone forces her
Some other ideas:
Darwin's origin of the species- thoughts regarding genetic inheritance Nora has inherited her ‘spendthrift’ ways from her father, while Dr Rank contracted syphilis as a result of his father’s sexual liaisons.
Money and social corruption-. Nora has a love of money and spending, while she has taken out a loan. Money forced her into the crime of fraud to save her dying husband.
