im just wondering, in the parabola parametrics when we get a question asking us to prove that SP=SQ (where Q is the point where the y-axis and tangent at P meet), can we just use the SP=PM property of a parabola? i would have thought this is sufficient but the textbooks im using show the full working in the answers which takes significantly longer to prove...

if theyre giving 2 or 3 marks, i doubt just a statement like that is what they want. usually with parametrics you have to work it out, even if the question is asking for the equation of the tangent at P.
