i have a theory you're more likely to end up at uni if your parents have a degree. your parent is anyone who took part in raising you and you consider a parent, be they a step parent or grandparent etc.

whaddya think ^_^

[edit] my mum has an arts degree (in history i think), my dad left school when he was 14

There was a similar thread asking whether your parents have a degree a while ago. This is a bit different though. My dad has a Masters Degree in Engineering Practice and I go to University, so your theory is holding up so far:D.

EDIT: My mum doesn't have a Degree:).

Neither parent. My dad failed his HSC and my mum didn't even finish high school. :p

My sister and I are both at uni.

My dad has an Adv Dipolma which was what he needed to become a CPA in the ATO so I guess that counts as a degree.

He was the first in his family to get any tertiary education

my mum went to a selective school and left at the end of year 10. my dad did about half a term of year 11 then left and started working in the bank. he was in the bank for 27 years and 12 of those as a branch manager.

there seems to be more jobs that demand a uni / tafe qualification these days, and therefore more people (regardless of socioeconomic status) can get in (with HECS and all). if i get in, i'll be the first (on my dad's side) to go to uni.

maybe because there's more pressure on kids to go on to year 12, they feel pressured to go to uni because their peers do as well. that's my theory anyways. :)

My father holds a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management, my mother holds a Doctor of Veterinary Science (both from the University of the Philippines, one of the most prestigeous in asia).

Both qualifications were worthless when they came here in 1982. Now my mother has an MBA from UTS, and my father hasn't taken any further study (he works in logistics).

my dad reached yr 9 (hardly) and mum finished in year 10 to marry my dad, so neither have degrees. Mum has a diploma in accounting though. I'm planning on going to uni and my bro is in 2nd yr doing Accouting/Law so I guess your theory, doe, is not all that right :p

there are also parents who have degrees and their children don't go to uni. so I think it can go either way.
