Hey guys, I've got a test for my p's coming up in a couple of weeks and I was just wondering if anybody has any good stories or tips about getting their P's first time?

Cheers

I passed first go, probably due to the way I handled situations that arose. For example, I stalled it about 5 minutes into the test, no looking to the instructor or apologising, clutch in and start like nothing had happened. Its important that you demonstrate that you can handle such situations swiftly with minimal risk to other drivers.

My other mistake was an incorrect gear selection up a hill, going up in 3rd rather than 2nd saw the car struggle a little. Just ensure that if youre going in a manual to remember such things as shifting based on the environment.

dont get stressed about it. treat the first test as a lesson, coz its the very best practise you can get. if you walk in with the mindset that 'im going to learn from this. if i pass thats great but if i fail then theres things i need to work on to be a better driver'

i was so anxious and afraid of failing that i stuffed it up and failed. i got so nervous i was shaking start to finish and nearly threw up... take it easy and you'll be less anxious.

it was the first thing i ever failed in my life. and so far the only thing. but in hindsight its no biggie.

and for the record, becasue the discussion is leaning this way, the last time i stalled was when the leg of my pants got stuck in the door [stupid wideleg pants!] and couldnt reach the accelerator... retard! although it was a few months ago. unfortunatley in front of some mates.

I love giving shit to people who stall, haha i went down the coast with some mates, and one of my mates dads took a shitload of people down in his kia carnivale, lol and he stalled it coming into the caravan park, oh god you should have hheard the roar of insults from the passengers. He copped alot of drunk shit that night over something so simple.

i got mine first go! what i did was that i had a lesson right before the test (and i made sooo many mistakes in that lesson) but it basically meant that i didnt make any in the actual test!! =)

I got my Ps first go and was damn proud.

Except I did a couple of things wrong like forgetting to release the handbrake and changing lanes pretty badly.

But passed! And am now looking for a car..

Passing P's first go Manual or Auto is no big deal, just don't be a loser and think ur good after 25 hours of driving then go for their P's, i no so many people who thought they were the good shit and just wrote in 20 hrs and went for P's. What do u know, failed like a mofo. lol

Anyways if u 1st time pass on Manual u should be very proud of ur self, most people find it hard to pass 1st time on Auto, onlything u need to do is STAY CALM, BE CONFIDENT and KNOW UR CAPABILITIES. I think the best thing to do is before u do the test take a lesson with a qualified instructor in ur area who knows some routes that ur local RTA does, i remeber when i got my P's went with instructor told me a few routes and remebered it and did like 2 practice runs, what do u no, worked like Magic, 1st time ace with a Manual Hyundai, got home and asked for a Honda Integra, i got shut down bad by my oldman. And just be extra careful, when ur turning into a road always take the closest lane even if u r at the start of the traffic, don't skip across to the second lane cos theres no cars, make sure u don't stall more than 1 time, infact don't even stall. If you r going up the hill, just use 2nd gear, cos u no 2nd always does the job. Unless it's a 55 plus degree slope, then use 1st gear lol.

Be confident. Indicate properly. Practice your reverse parking right before you do the test. Don't wear a jumper, no matter how cold it is, you'll sweat like a dog. Constantly monitor your speed.

It's not difficult, at all.

I had problems with remembering to look over my left shoulder when changing into a left lane/turning corner and with indicating out of a roundabout (my parents had no idea that rule existed and I didn't have any professional driving lessons until a week before my test).

Just try and remember small things that you can get marked down on. I passed my test, but got marked down for leaving my blinker on too long when changing into a right lane and then turning a right corner (I was supposed to take it off and then put it back on).

A friend of mine was failed for not turning off his indicator before turning off the car at a hillstart.

Worst one i've heard.
