Faraday's Law states:

The induced electromotive force (EMF) in any closed circuit is equal to the time rate of change of the magnetic flux through the circuit.
A DC input will generate a constant magnetic field, no EMF will be induced as there is no change in magnetic flux. An AC input changes direction frequently, this results in a magnetic flux that changes direction frequently, since there is a change in magnetic flux, an EMF is induced.
