A cathode ray oscilloscope can be used to measure sound waves if a microphone and amplifier are used to input the signal. The microphone is a transducer (energy changer) which converts sound energy into electrical energy. The C.R.O has a vertical axis which measures voltage (an indication of the loudness of the note) and a horizontal axis which measures time (usually in milliseconds ms or microseconds). The instrument can switch scales at will to tune in the signal to provide a measurable trace like the above. The grid screen is in cm. Determine the peak to peak voltage and the frequency of the "sound" if the instrument is set at:
a) 0.1 volts/cm and 1ms/cm
b) 0.2 volts/cm and 100(microseconds)/cm
c) 5 volts/cm and 10ms/cm
