Hey guys, I recently just moved to a new school because I had to move houses far away and for other more personal reasons too.

I joined in week 6 of this term, so more than halfway through the first term of year 12. I got in based on academic merit as I did well in my prelims however there is already a Dux in this new school I joined.

I just sat my Physics task 1, and unfortunately, I think I lost around 4 marks due to some errors (max 5) and so that would give me about 24 or 25/30. This task is task 1 and weighs 20% of my internals.

Is there still any way to improve my rank, possibly even ranking top 3 or top 1 as I am not far off from the Dux, or will this loss in marks in task 1 contribute too much and hinder a band 6?

Sorry if I anything I said is unclear, it's just that idk much about how this system works.

hey hey don' worry too much, you only lost like 5 marks, and on top of that the task is 20% weighting, you have legit 80% worth of marks to redeem yourself through like two more tasks AND trials and not to mention, internals are only 50% of your entire hsc mark! ur good and u can def catch up :)

So long as you never give up, you can't be too upset regardless of the final result. Task 1 for HSCs are often the most important "mark for mark" and percentage wise. Therefore, it's important to do well as small differences contribute greatly to percentage differences. Basically, if Dux got 30/30, ur gonna need to catch up 3-4 percent elsewhere, which probably means at least 10-14 percent better in other tests combined.

You got three more tasks plus externals to catch up. Plenty of opportunity and time. Good luck.
