NSW State Parliament just made it illegal to breed, introduce, sell, give away etc. any pit bulls, american pit bulls, japanese tozas, argentinian fighting dogs or brizilian fighting dogs - meaning they're pretty much going to die out (at least in this state).

Is it inhumane?
Should the State parliament be able to introduce such legislation or should it be a regulated area instead?
A positive law that will protect society?
What do you think?

wat u mean presumably

a lot of kids, adults and elderly people have been seriously mawled and/or killed by pit bulls.
THey could consider however, making it illegal to have one in public that isn;t muzzled.

It already was illegal to have one in public that isn't muzzled. The poblem is that it didn't stop people getting attacked by them.

as in people didn't have them muzzled, or they can still attack u wen they're muzzled?

the latter i find hard to beleive,
therefore they should have a 100000 instant fine and a 10 yr jail term if u are caught with an unmuzzled pitbull in public

as in people didn't have them muzzled, or they jumped the fence and got out without their owner knowing.

introduce stricter handling laws if u want to own one then

so all of the above doesn't happen

or else just phase them out of society, i don;t think its too great a loss

yeh of course...

but presumably those people also realise that their dog has the potential to kill someone, which is not to be taken with a grain of salt

That's true, but the vast majority of them would have been aware of this before deciding to keep this type of dog, and would have made the commitment to ensure that the dog was (Or dogs were) kept in a safe, secure environment. After having kept the dog without incident for a period of time already, I'm sure they'd think it somewhat unjustified that this right has been taken away from them, when they've been doing the right thing all along.

It just seems like everyone is going to be punished for incidents which I'd hope are fairly minimal (In comparison to the number of people owning these dogs).

its totally unreasonable.

i dont have our problem our government making rules....2 have to muzzle them or put them on leeashes.. etc.........but............completely bannning ownership of these animals.....thats fucking rediculous...

i dont own a pit bull etc..........but........its getting out of hand........anything unpopular is being outlawed........its a very slippery slope...

certain music may become banned,,,,they are looking into banning information about suicide.... and banning children from being outside at certain times.,,,,,,,,,,,,,, when we start bannning things simply because they are unpopular or out of line with out governments view of our society -- it sets the wheeels in motion for extreme government oppression and abuses of power.

You might not own a pit bulll, and this particular law may no effect you, but what about when they ban ur favorite tv show, censor internet sites, etc etc etc etc..............................we should have fucking freeedom of choice....

you fucking morons.

its only a abosolutely tiny portion of animals......and if the owners were responsible ...these attacks wouldnt happen...

also maybe if parents watched there own fucking kids...these things could also be avoided as welll...

why cant we ban some ppple from having animals? and ban some ppple from having kids....

most ppple are morons.

......ur missing the bigger picture u dum fucks..

what pisses me offf
just like with guns..................u do the right fucking thing........and get ur gun/dog licensed and registered.......and then the government abuses ur trust.......by targeting you..........to confiscate....and put tighter controls on you....

To me thats a fucking crime............our government abusing the goood faith of law abiding citizens....

you ppple on here are fucked........u take this country for fucking granted..
