3) Parents tend to have expectations from their children. These certain expectations may include performing well academically, behaving appropriately, excelling in sports etc. Are you expected to fulfill certain expectations from parents?

No. My parents want what's best for me. Although i'm at a selective high school, and they do want me to do my best, their main aim is for me to be able to get where i want to go in an academic sense. My parents only expect from me what i expect from myself. As it happens i am aiming at a 90-95 UAI, so they attempt to support me and help me get to where i want to be. However, if i was aiming at a lower UAI course, then their expectations of me would reflect that, so its not a case of expecting high marks for the sake of it.

However, I'm a Christian and so are my parents, so they would hope that i would be trying to live in a Godly way, including at school; they don't like it if i'm a prick to my teachers =]

I've never been pushed to excel at sport, only to do what i enjoy.

7) Why do parents tend to have such expectations?

To teach teens to take up responsibility
To make sure their children have a bright future
To show people the way in which they have bought up their child
Other:

All of the above, varying on a case by case basis.

8) What do you believe are the likely affects of being pressurized to fulfill these expectations?

Again it varies. Some children benefit from such an environment, others are overwhelmed by such expectations, which can cause problems like lack of confidence/self-esteem/a feeling of worth.

9) Do you struggle to meet the expectations of society, friends, family, or even your own?

No. Prioritising what is of real value to me makes it easier to fulfill expectations.

Do you believe parents are pressurizing their children to become their “perfect” child?

Both in different cases.

11) What is your definition of “perfect?”

impossible to accurately define in a social sense.

12) Is it possible for an individual to be “perfect?"

No.

13) Do you think there are more expectations from females than males?

There are different expectations on both.

14) Do you think that males are not responding to such expectations the way females do?
Too hard to answer without generalising inaccurately

Do you believe parents are pressurizing their children to become their “perfect” child?
Yes

11) What is your definition of “perfect?”
To be the best at everything

12) Is it possible for an individual to be “perfect?"
No

I believe the word "perfect" to mean to b the best at everything, but in reality there probably isnt one person in the world who is fantastic at art, music, drama, sport as well as good at science, maths and who also has the perfect "image"- I find that people who value intellect above all usually dont worry too much about their appearence

13) Do you think there are more expectations from females than males?

Females

Females seem to worry more I guess.... Many Females also tend to desire that 'perfect appearance more than a lot of males do.

14) Do you think that males are not responding to such expectations the way females do?
No

Although this doesnt apply to all males; I find that females tend to want to achieve the expectations of others more than males do, perhaps this is because of the pressures of society on females of which dont effect or influence males as much.

I hope that was some help, sorry if my answers arent specific enough..... good luck with ur PIP and the HSC!!!! oh yeh, I am Australian by the way.
