What exactly occurs during this step? Is it just the monitoring of the process to ensure desired results? Or does something else happen?

the resulting ethene molecule from the initiation stage is now a free radical, which attacks the double bonds of other ethene molecules as a result of an addition of a new group, which makes the polymer chain long

So you're saying propagation is just the stage where the polymerisation occurs?

Yeah it is a stage in the polymerisation of ethene.
Has nothing to do with monitoring

polymerisation consists of three stages

initiation
propagation
termination

so yups XD lol

hmm, i never knew it was a 3 step process,
i always just wrote free radical reacts with a ethene molecule, forming a activated monomer. then the activated monomer reacts with another monomer forming a dimer, this process continues untill the the chain is stopped by a free radical joining the group or where two chains join together

I was actaully asking what happens during the propagation stage. I guess I can cut out the quality control stuff then. Damn tutor, yet again!

Gesus: dimer?

You don't actually have to name the stages. Just describe the overall process

Propogation stage: the activated monomer adds onto another ethene monomoer to produce a dimer radical
this process continues and the chain builds longer

I've never heard that term 'dimer' before
Where did you get it from?

Fair enough. Never thought of it like that, seems kinda over-simplified, but ah well
