Hi guys,

I know that sometimes the question will ask you to prove the parametric versions of tangents, normals and chords but I've never seen a question that asks to prove the chord of contact formula.

Do we ever have to prove the chord of contact formula in tests? I find the proof a bit confusing and I'm worried it might be in my test in a few days

Thanks

It can be asked, but it is very unlikely.

The reason is because it is a standard textbook proof and questions nowadays usually give you the standard equations like tangent, normal etc. Reason is because awarding marks for proving them is essentially giving away free marks, since they are 'rote-learn-able'.

To be safe, have a rough idea of the proof JUST INCASE, but I highly doubt it will be asked.

Have you ever seen a question in a test asking to prove chord of contact?
