QQing at Q2Q questions~~ (dem Physics struggles)
QUESTIONS TO ASK:
Q. Two important features of linear accelerators are high voltage and a high ion beam current.
a) Why is a high voltage essential?
b) Why is a high ion beam current desirable?
(Iirc, the high-voltage is applied to the electrodes? And there is zero electric field inside the drift tube. Also the AC power supply allows the alternating polarities of the tube and the preceding tube? So what information am I meant to recall to answer part (a)?)
Q. How would I structure my answer for the following questions:
- Assess the information obtained from the particle accelerators. [3 mks]
- Evaluate the importance of the work of Chadwick, Pauli and Fermi in changing our understanding of the atom. [6 mks] (Do I just pick one of their contributions for each scientist then do arguments for + against & judgement?)
- Describe the technologies developed from the Manhattan Project, and assess the significance to science + society of their applications. [7 mks] (I'd assume 2-3 marks worth of content for 'describe' and 4-5 marks worth of content for 'assess'?)
