stroke volume is the amount of blood pumped out of the left ventricle of the heart, to be sent to the tissues of the body
since a fit athlete has a higher stroke volume than an unfit athlete, they have more blood circulating the body, allowing more oxygen to be delivered to be used up by the muscles.
This affects superior performance because more oxygen available for use means the athlete can perform activities of longer duration and at a higher intensity

in summary: stroke volume (L/beat) ---> more blood being delivered--->more oxygen to be used up by muscles--->activities for longer duration and higher intensity

Fit athlete = increased sv and increased co due to increase in muscle hypertrophy of heart = lower resting heart rate = more oxygenated blood pumped to the working muscles at time of working demand and hence aerobic capacity of athlete has increased
