For a question of this nature http://puu.sh/dgvcw/7cb432e4ce.png , would you use the formula F=ma, or the formula F = T(Thurst) - mg(rocket)?

So what you get is:

$m_{r}a_{r} = T - m_{r}g \\ \\ \\ $(Noting r subscript for rocket and by resolving vector components head to tail).$ \\ \\ \\ $Hence, $ a_r = \frac{T - m_{r}g}{m_{r}}$

Now initially, the initial thrust and the initial mass are given, so you can find the initial acceleration that way.
