Do diary entries have to be informal or can they be formal as well?

dont make it formal. if youre going to make it formal then write a journal.

They should be informal, as it shows that you understand the language used for that text type. However, there should be a limit to the extent of informality used so no words like LOL (abbreviations), C for see (shorthand words), etc.
