When you quote poems, do you write like this:

"Across the stony ridges,/ Across the rolling plains,/"

Across the stony ridges,
Across the rolling plain,

Young Harry Dale, the drover,
Comes riding home again.
And well his stock-horse bears him,
And light of heart is he,
And stoutly his old pack-horse
Is trotting by his knee.

The poem is the above one and the highlighted part is the one I am quoting.

My english teacher says that if you are quoting less than 3 lines use slashes (like you did), but if you are quoting more write it out properly, although you really shouldnt be quoting more than 3 lines anyway.

If you are quoting directly use: " "
If you are paraphrasing part of the quote use: ' '
If you change words in the quote use: [ ]

:D
