You just buy a new set of strings. You can usually pick them up for about $8 - $15,
Most people restring themselves, but some people pay to have someone else do it (usually costs quite a bit considering its 5 minutes work).

Recommend you jump on youtube and search for a restringing tutorial, or your guitar manufacturers website and do it yourself so you learn how.

Oh and if you've never bought strings before you might wanna ask for help with gauge size.... the most common are 0.09's and 0.10's (thickness of the high e string).

guitar string

so i bought my first guitar just recently, an ibanez electric. and today i was stuffing around with the tremolo bar and broke a string.

is it costly to get this repaired? know where i can get it re-strung cheaply & quickly?

yeah go to youtube and look for videos on re-stringing

its really quiet simple to do but I had no idea either the first time I got one

I also play heavy metal... i find 10's easy to play with in E standard (anything lower and they go too flappy though). On my squier atm i have 13's on and its tuned to C standard (though sometimes i tune it even lower).
